70% less test time – full results
In modern electric motor production, every second – and every motor – counts. Reliable electric motor testing is essential for end-of-line testing (EOL), in-line production testing, motor quality assurance, and incoming goods inspection. Test systems help manufacturers maintain high quality standards, detect costly defects at an early stage, and ensure complete traceability throughout the production process.
imx METIS achieves these goals – faster, smarter, and more economically.
Based on innovative, model-based parameter identification, imx METIS reduces test and cycle times by up to 70%, directly increasing production efficiency.
Its load-free motor testing technology eliminates the need for a load machine while analyzing the relevant characteristics and parameters of DC, EC, and AC motors. The result: fast, consistent, and reproducible motor testing designed for modern production environments.

electric motor production
Load-free and fully automated motor testing
Brushed DC motors (DC), permanent-magnet synchronous motors (EC), and induction motors (AC) – each technology follows its own physical principles and places specific demands on excitation, measurement, and analysis.
imx METIS and the imx OMEGA test software address this diversity with one consistent testing concept: load-free, fully automated, reproducible, and traceable.
Deep testing with model-based imx Parameter Identification
imx OMEGA Parameter Identification (imx PI) is a model-based test method that identifies the characteristics and parameters of an electric motor based on measurements of current, voltage, and rotor angle.
The load required for testing is not applied externally. Instead, it is generated solely by the motor under test’s own moment of inertia in combination with a highly dynamic test sequence specifically adapted to the motor.
This load-free testing approach eliminates the need for torque sensors, couplings, load machines, or mechanical brakes.
Space-saving – Simple setup – Efficient
Thanks to the innovative imx Parameter Identification for electric motors, imx METIS requires significantly fewer components and eliminates the need for conventional mechanical test bench equipment. All that is required is secure mechanical fixation of the motor under test and appropriate protection of rotating and live components.
This concept reduces the system footprint, simplifies the test setup, and significantly lowers acquisition and maintenance costs compared with conventional motor test systems – without compromising test depth. At the same time, complete traceability of all test results is ensured.
Modular imx OMEGA test software
The motor under test is electrically connected and mechanically secured. Testing can then begin immediately. imx OMEGA enables each test sequence to be performed fully automatically. And there is another advantage: different motor types can be tested on the same production line.
The modular imx OMEGA test software automatically identifies the motor under test based on information provided by the production line and loads the appropriate test configuration – without interruption and without operator intervention. This enables different motor types and production batches to be tested continuously and efficiently in series production.
imx METIS
The electric motor test platform for production, EOL testing and quality assurance
Cost reduction
Minimal hardware – no load machine or torque sensor required for load-free motor testing.
Fast setup
In production environments, motors can remain mounted on their workpiece carriers during testing, minimizing setup and handling time.
Low maintenance
The simplified test setup enables low-maintenance operation and high system availability.
Small footprint
Compact hardware design for easy integration into existing production lines and EOL test stations.
Depending on the motor type and power class, imx METIS tests typically take only a few seconds and no more than two minutes.
Even large traction drives with power ratings of several hundred kilowatts can be fully characterized within a very short time. Despite the highly dynamic nature of the test, thermal stress remains low due to moderate average motor currents. Even during longer test cycles, the motor temperature remains within permissible limits.
By combining model-based imx OMEGA Parameter Identification with load-free electric motor testing, imx METIS provides comprehensive motor characterization within exceptionally short test cycles – making it ideal for fast and reliable production testing.

In development environments, fast parameter identification also enables engineers to compare real motor characteristics with simulation and design data at an early stage.
imx METIS Hardware
Modular and expandable hardware
for electric motor testing
imx METIS is based on a modular and expandable hardware concept designed for industrial electric motor testing. Two functional modules perform the system's key tasks.
The Head Unit handles measurement data acquisition and test sequence control. The Control Unit contains the required controllers and motor control hardware, among other components. The system also includes a safety PLC. Power supplies and uninterruptible power supplies for the PC and communication components complete the core hardware configuration.
All components are integrated into a 19-inch cabinet. Every imx METIS solution is therefore delivered as a complete, ready-to-operate motor testing system that can be integrated into production and quality assurance environments.

imx Parameter Identification
Three Motor Types. One Testing Concept. Zero Time Wasted.
Brushed DC motors (DC), permanent-magnet synchronous motors (EC), and induction motors (AC) – each motor technology follows its own physical principles and places different demands on excitation, measurement, and analysis.
The imx OMEGA test software and its integrated imx Parameter Identification (imx PI) test methods address these differences with one consistent testing concept: load-free, fully automated, reproducible, and traceable.
Instead of using a conventional load machine to characterize the motor, imx PI uses model-based test methods to identify relevant motor parameters within a very short test cycle.
This makes load-free parameter identification particularly suitable for end-of-line testing, production testing, quality assurance, and incoming goods inspection, where short cycle times and reliable results are essential.
And here’s the best part: under ideal conditions, imx METIS needs only 15 seconds to complete a test. By the time you finish reading this short paragraph, another electric motor could already have been tested!
